DARIEN WATERFRONT

DARIEN WATERFRONT

PROJECT DETAILS
We were hired in early 2011 to design the expansion of a Connecticut home perched high above Scott Cove on the Long Island Sound.  The 3,500 square foot addition includes a kitchen and family room, media room, master suite and bedrooms, as well as work, utility and outdoor spaces.  The new structure replaces a smaller 1960’s addition, and the remaining 4,200 sf of the original house was completely renovated.  Additionally, a small 1920s garage with chauffer’s quarters was replaced with a new 2,800 sf two-story garage with work studio, gym and music room.  Landscaping and site work unifies the buildings and designates various outdoor living and play spaces.

The eclectic chateau style of the original house served as inspiration for the addition.  The existing slate roof, stucco-clad building massing, and traditional trim and detailing were all extended to the new addition to seamlessly blend the new and old.  The addition of timber-frame details, along with brick and stone work at the base, adds layers of charm and solidity to the house.
