Senior Project Manager

Margaret joined The Brooklyn Studio in 2014 and holds the role of director, with a focus on design quality and standards within the office. She elevates each project with her sharp eye for detail, and has a particular passion for marrying historical details with modern design elements to create beautiful and highly functional spaces.

Prior to her time at BKS, Margaret gained large-scale multi-family residential and boutique hotel/hospitality experience at Morris Adjmi Architects and Rockwell Group. She also built an extensive background in high-end, single-family residential and small-scale multi-family residential at TenBurke Architects, Eve Robinson Associates, and Barrett Design + Development.

Having studied economics at Vassar College and the London School of Economics, Margaret pivoted to obtain an associate degree in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design.

She holds a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University.

The Proust Questionnaire

Taking inspiration from a popular nineteenth-century parlor game, we sat down with each member of our team and asked them a few questions about their inspirations and aspirations.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A field of dogs with a seafood buffet off to the side.

What is your greatest fear?

Cockroaches.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I’m a sucker for sumptuous textiles—cashmere, silk, linen.

What talent would you most like to have?

Fine painting skills.

What is your favorite color?

Pale blue green, blush.

What is your favorite virtue?

Compassion.

Which living architect or designer do you most admire?

Joseph Dirand.

Which dead architect or designer do you most admire?

Francesco Borromini and Sir John Soane.

What is the trait that you most appreciate in a building?

Historic decorative details: carved relief panels, wood inlays, hand-crafted touches. I also appreciate when they are contrasted with modern elements like concealed linear lighting or curved glass.

What is your favorite type of project to work on?

One that incorporates interesting and beautiful materials.

Who is your favorite author?

My favorite novels come from Donna Tartt, Jess Walter, Jay McInerney.

Who is your favorite artist?

Do Ho Suh, Sharon Lockhart.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

I don’t know that I can compare myself to any great historical figure… yet!

What is your most treasured possession?

I have many. I’m a collector/pack rat.

Where would you like to live?

NYC. Never leaving.

What quality do you most admire in others?

Selflessness.

Stranded on a desert island, you have two books in your possession. What are they?

One large book and one thick book. The large one for shielding my skin from the sun, and the thick one to use as kindling for grilling fish.
