CWB: A CAT HOUSE

CWB recently received a unique client request: design a cat house for a feral cat colony by the Williamsburg waterfront.  The client was in the midst of renovating a house that they would soon be moving to.  The move would require leaving behind the cat colony they had been caring for and they wanted to ensure that the cats would still be able to receive food, clean water, and shelter in their absence.  CWB took on the challenge as a fun inner-office design competition.  Check out the entries below: The winning entry, by Jesse Fearins, was modified slightly and brought to life by Pilaster Inc.  The client’s residence, also constructed by Pilaster, will be ready for move in before Christmas this year.

In a recent “Off Duty” article, the Wall Street Journal highlighted the kitchen at the Cobble Hill Sanctuary project by CWB.  Almost all of the cabinetry in this project is custom and the kitchen is highlighted in the article as an excellent example of a 100% custom designed and built scheme.

BREAKING GROUND: STRONG PLACE UPDATE

The site at Strong Place has been moving along quickly and has been a rare opportunity for CWBer’s to see how a Brooklyn row house grows from the ground-up.  A recent site visit explored the sheeting and shoring process and monitoring of neighboring buildings as well as the process of setting up a foundation.  The images show the extensive rebar and formwork for the 3 new buildings. The group, listening as the project manager describes how far they’ve come and how far there is still to go.

Its getting to be a busy summer at CWB.  New projects seem to pop up daily as we branch out into some unique architectural situations. One of our recent interiors projects, Joralemon Upgrade, will be open for viewing in conjunction with the Brooklyn Heights Association’s Landmark House & Garden tour. Click here to get your tickets! “On a street that was once a crooked path which, in the first years of the 19th century, ran from the banks of the East River to the large Philip Livingston Estate, we’ll be visiting a house built in 1847. Inside, you’ll be treated to an interesting art collection and inventive interior design.”
